What to Wear to Your Engagement Session

St. Johns, Michigan

Your engagement session is such a special time for you. It serves a few purposes. One, it allows you to get more comfortable being photographed. Some couples have a very hard time being photographed, but your wedding day will be bombarded with people wanting to take pictures, so this helps you with your level of comfort. Secondly, it allows me to get to know you, and you to get to know me before your wedding. By spending the time together to photograph your engagement session, we will learn each other's personalities, and become more comfortable working together. And lastly, it allows you to learn my core poses so that you can remember them for your wedding day, allowing us to get your wedding portraits done quickly. The quicker we get your wedding portraits done, the quicker you can enjoy your party!

Because the engagement session is so special, brides often stress about what to wear. They want to look absolutely sure that they look stunning (and lets be honest - all EJP brides look stunning naturally!) because chances are that they will be printing and hanging these photos around their home, and sharing them with all of their friends and loved ones on Facebook! Today I thought I'd post a little help for those struggling to find the perfect look for their session. This compilation includes both high end and budget friendly options that will ensure your portraits look upscale regardless of the price! If you found this helpful, let me know. I'd be happy to do more blog posts like this in the future. After all, I'm always happy to help my Elizabeth Jean Photography brides and grooms!

Cheers! XOXO

Below, you'll find six beautiful dress options to inspire your outfit search. Enjoy!

A Formal Look with Sparkle

You know I love sparkle, and photographing it is a dream to me. I always suggest my couples go all out with at least one of their outfits, and what better way to do that than by picking out a stunning sequin gown?

The dress on the left is a gorgeous blush sequin gown from Adrianna Papell that retails for $329. A more affordable sequin option (which retails around $46) is pictured on the right, and you can find it on Amazon!

A Simple Formal Look

If you're not a huge fan of the sparkle, but still want to look formal for your portraits, here are a few formal gowns that are toned down a bit, but still equally as gorgeous.

The dress on the left is a beautiful convertible dress (meaning you can wear it multiple ways!) that comes in an array of colors, and retails for $60 on Amazon. If you're interested in a more high end look, this beautiful baby blue high low gown from Faviana retails for $328.

A Cocktail Dress

Cocktail dresses can be a very cute option for an engagement session. Their shorter length allows you to feel less restricted but without sacrificing the formal look.

Both of these options include a beautiful lace overlay. On the left is a beautiful cocktail dress from Neiman Marcus that retails for $310. On the right is another cocktail dress, but this one retails for $30 and can be found on Amazon.

Hopefully this little mini guide has given you some inspiration for your engagement session. There are always so many choices to make when picking your outfit, so I want to help!
